Code Club at St Joseph’s NS
At St Joseph’s NS, we are proud to offer Code Club as part of our after-school activities. In this club, pupils are introduced to the exciting world of coding — a vital skill in today’s digital world.
Pupils learn the basics of coding through fun, hands-on projects using beginner-friendly platforms such as Scratch and MakeCode Arcade. We primarily focus on block-based coding, which provides an accessible and visual way to understand programming concepts like sequencing, loops, and variables. This makes it easy for pupils to build their confidence while creating games, animations, and interactive stories.
Coding encourages creativity, logical thinking, and problem-solving — skills that support learning across all areas of the curriculum. Pupils also develop perseverance and collaborative thinking as they test, debug, and improve their creations.
As part of Code Club, pupils are also introduced to robotics. They get the chance to build and program robots using LEGO SPIKE and LEGO WeDo kits. These sessions combine engineering and coding in a playful and engaging way, allowing pupils to see how code brings machines to life.
Code Club is not just about learning to code — it’s about empowering pupils to become creators of technology, not just users.
